This site is significant because:

It comprises a prominent work of public art located in a park setting. The park was developed as a component of the Calgary Board of Education's new headquarters public in the late 1960's, and, more broadly, as party of an urban renewal scheme to revitalize the east end of downtown.

Brotherhood of Mankind comprises ten giant nude statues designed by artist Mario Armengol for the British pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal. They have become emblematic of the Calgary Board of Education, and they appear in the board's logo. Some Calgarians were initially shocked by the nudity depicted in the statues, but they have become widely accepted as a landmark and a symbol of public school board.

Spanish-born Mario Armengol (1909-1995) moved to Britain where he became a successful artist and sculptor. He created Brotherhood of Mankind as a commission for the British Pavi

Character-defining elements: The Character defining elements include; - 10 abstracted human figures - circular setting of figures - cast aluminum construction
