The NOVA Building complex is valued as a symbol of NOVA's pivotal role in Alberta¿s gas development and growth. Through its development of one of the largest and most technically-advanced gas transmission systems in the world, and established as a publicly mandated company, NOVA was a major enabler of Alberta's vibrant natural gas and gas chemicals industries (Symbolic value, City-wide significance).

The NOVA Building complex is also valued for its association with Bob Blair, President and Chief Executive Officer of NOVA. Blair, a visionary entrepreneur, aggressively grew NOVA from its Alberta Gas Trunk Line Company roots into a diverse international player in gas transmission, gas marketing, petrochemicals and plastics, manufacturing and resource development. This building is a direct result of Blair's vision and optimism for gas development in the province (Person value, City-wide sig

Character-defining elements: Key elements that define the heritage character of the NOVA Building complex include, but is not limited to its: - location on adjacent corner lots at the intersection of 7th Street SW and 7th Avenue SW in the west end of Calgary's urban core; - siting set back from the street with wide public pathways, and rotated 45 degrees to the standard city grid; - landscaping features such as: semi-tropical plantings in the atrium; urban parkettes with mature winter garden plantings complementary to those of Century Gardens; - form, scale, and massing as expressed by its: non-symmetrical eccentric shape
