Heritage Character Statement
A Modern movement style building - it features; curtain wall cladding with expressed structural frame and large flat panels of Tyndall stone. It was designed by J. Stevenson & Associates, prominent architects. A purpose-built structure assembled by a group of medical practitioners to counter the shortage of space during the post WWII boom in Calgary. It was an important building in establishing the dominant character of the area.
Summary History
Following a major oil discovery at Leduc, Alberta in 1947, Calgary entered a sustained period of economic and population growth. Very little major construction had taken place in the city since before the Great Depression, and increasing need for professional office space quickly outgrew the available supply.
